#1 Lighten up your Skincare Routine
Harsh winter weather requires the use of heavier skincare products designed to protect your skin from environmental irritants like cold temperatures, wind, and rain. In the summer, your skincare routine requires products that aren’t as heavy to avoid clogging pores or causing greasiness. Instead of packing on a thick moisturizer, the heat and humidity of summer call for lighter oil-free moisturizers. While you don’t want to skip moisturizing altogether, using a light moisturizer like Kate Somerville Oil Free Moisturizer will give your skin space to breathe (and sweat) without leaving behind an oily residue or prompting unnecessary breakouts from clogged pores. #5 Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Staying hydrated is crucial to your skin’s health, especially in the summer months. Warmer temperatures can cause your body to sweat and potentially burn. To provide protection for your skin and help it recover at the same time, try to drink at least eight glasses of water each day. Hydrating your skin from the inside out will keep your skin looking fresh no matter what time of year it is. #6 Always Apply SPF
The most fundamental rule of your summer skincare routine is to always wear sunscreen. Applying sunscreen to your entire body, especially your face, can protect your skin from ultraviolet rays associated with premature aging and skin cancer . When applying sunscreen, be sure to check the directions on the sunscreen bottle you are using. Most SPF requires you to re-apply every two hours when outdoors for optimal sun protection. Additionally, swimming and sweating may also reduce the effectiveness of SPF, and you will need to re-apply sooner than anticipated.
