What is a VI Peel?
What is a VI Peel?
April 27, 2021  Kate Somerville

You've moisturized, cleansed, toned, and applied sunscreen daily for months. You may have even tried out derma-rolling or developed a gua sha routine. Yet, somehow your skin isn't as youthful-looking as you'd hoped. As Skin Health Experts, we talk to men and women every day about the visible signs of aging they want help with. And while we’d never ask you to erase the wisdom, memories, and life experiences that contributed to those laugh lines, deep wrinkles, and sun spots, we can help you diminish the visible signs with a comprehensive approach to clinic-grade age repair. One of our favorite treatments at our Skin Health Experts in Los Angeles and New York City for diminishing the visible signs of aging quickly? A VI Peel.

What is a VI Peel?

A VI Peel is a non-invasive and gentle yet powerful medical-grade chemical peel used to treat various skin concerns. Acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, sun and age spots, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and enlarged pores are just a few of the many issues we treat at our clinics with a VI Peel. As an anti-aging treatment, this peel is swift, pain-free, and suitable for all skin types. It can be applied on the face, neck, cheeks, back, arms, legs and is sensitive enough to use under your eyes. With little downtime, it's a quick 30-minute peel that's easy to fit into your busy schedule – and delivers visible results fast.

For more information or to book a VI Peel at one of our clinics, you can book online in New York here or call our Los Angeles clinic at (323) 655-7546.

Achieve VI-Like Results At-Home

Eager to reap the many facial peel benefits at home? Inspired by the VI Peel, the KateCeuticals Resurfacing Overnight Peel is expertly formulated with the same ingredients as our clinic peel and works to improve skin tone, clarity, and texture while visibility reducing acne scars, age spots, and hyperpigmentation. A powerful blend of gold standard active ingredients glycolic acid, retinol, niacinamide, and ceramides for skin, deliver clinical peel results without downtime. They work together to help combat the effects of aging, sun damage, and environmental stressors. Simply apply before bed and leave it on overnight to wake up to improved luminosity, fine lines and skin texture.

Why These Ingredients?

If you’re new to skincare and haven’t done your ingredient homework yet, our Skin Health Experts are here to help you quickly and easily understand the value these anti-aging ingredients provide skin:

Glycolic Acid

Glycolic acid is a much-loved ingredient in the world of skincare. Primarily used as an exfoliant, glycolic acid helps shed dead skin cells, revealing a brighter, more youthful skin layer underneath. Because it is small AHA, glycolic acid can penetrate more deeply into the upper layers of the skin than most topical ingredients, allowing it to do some serious work. By stimulating surface cell turnover, it helps boost skin's firmness and minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles [1].

Nothing works quite like retinol does when it comes to diminishing the visible signs of aging. It's a serious skincare multitasker, increasing cell turnover, improving skin texture, boosting firmness, evening out skin tone, and visibly reducing pigmentation issues. If you're considering a VI Peel, the benefits received from retinol alone are more than worth it.

If you're searching for a way to brighten up your skin's complexion, look no further. While vitamin C is known for its skin-brightening benefits, vitamin B3 (a.k.a niacinamide) is a skincare underdog when it comes to brightening up your complexion. Powerful when combined with the other ingredients used in a VI peel treatment, niacinamide brightens your skin while working to minimize signs of aging and improve existing acne.

Ceramides are a crucial component of any VI Peel treatment. They help hold your skin together and form a protective layer that reduces moisture loss [2]. Forming this layer is an essential part of protecting your skin against visible damage from environmental stressors.

Vitamin E

When applied topically, vitamin E can help with a wide range of skin disorders and help restore severely damaged skin. Vitamin E works with your skin to assist in cellular restoration from sun damage and helps reduce damage due to scars and burns [3].

VI Pre-and-Post Care

Preparing For Your VI Peel

When it comes to preparing for your VI peel, there's not much you need to do - we'll do most of the work for you! Before coming in for your treatment, continue to care for your skin as usual. In the days leading up to your peel, try to avoid sun exposure and tanning, and be sure to apply sunscreen when not indoors. You'll also want to avoid sweating immediately after your peel and throughout the healing process, so plan on a lighter exercise routine for a few days.

Caring For Your VI Peel

The great thing about a VI Peel is that it requires little to no downtime! While we'll provide you with a more extensive post-care process after your procedure, it's important that you don't put anything on your skin for the first four hours after your peel - this includes sunscreen. Over the next few days, cleansing your face and patting your face dry is key to keeping your skin looking and feeling its best.

Whether you choose to start with the KateCeuticals™ Resurfacing Overnight Peel at home or come into the clinic for a chemical VI Peel, our Kate Somerville Skin Health Experts are here to help guide you and your skin through the aging process.
